Shortleaf Stable’s homebred Quietside logged her second and final Keeneland workout Friday morning in preparation for the Kentucky Oaks (G1) at Churchill Downs a week from today.

On track at 7:30 a.m. after the first renovation and before a quick storm turned the surface from fast to sloppy, Quietside was clocked in :48.20 for the half-mile with her Oaks jockey, Jose Ortiz, in the saddle. Keeneland clockers reported her fractions as :12.20, :23.80 and :36.40 and a gallop out of 1:00 and “a tick” for 5 furlongs.

“Jose and I had a plan to give her just a half-mile and easy gallop out just to keep her on her toes from here on out,” trainer John Ortiz said. “She worked perfectly. It looks like she is ready.”

Quietside is expected to be one of the favorites in the 1⅛-mile Oaks after winning the Fantasy (G2) and Honeybee (G3) at Oaklawn Park in her past two starts. She breezed at Keeneland on April 18 and is scheduled to depart Keeneland for Churchill Friday afternoon.

Quietside is named for the resort area of Maine where Shortleaf owner John Ed Anthony and his wife, Isabell, vacation. One of her barnmates is the gray Barber Road, a Grade 1-placed starter in the 2022 Kentucky Derby (G1) Presented by Woodford Reserve and now a “stable pony” in Ortiz’s barn.

Post position draws for the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Kentucky Oaks will be held Saturday, April 26 at 7:15 p.m. at Churchill.
